Differentiation in Ms. Ejemole's Classroom:
Layered CurriculumA three layer model that requires students to use higher level thinking skills as they work through the layers.
LAYER C: basic competency; what the student must do, if successful student earns a C. LAYER B: apply, manipulate, and play with the information they gathered from LAYER C; if successful in C and B, student earns a B. LAYER A: requires students to think critically about an issue. Layer A teaches students critical thinking skills and how to apply their classroom learning into their daily lives. |
JigSaw StrategyA strategy that attacks discussion differently. Students are placed in groups. Each group is responsible for independently reading an article, or piece of text. Students rotate based on color or number they were assigned. I like this strategy because in a short amount of time a large amount of material can be covered. Great opportunity for students to use their Interactive Notebooks.

TicTacToe BoardsStudent choice is key. I love tic tac toe boards because it gives students the opportunity to decide on the best way they want to "show what they know". This strategy is helpful and useful across all four disciplines. This strategy also caters to all of the learning styles that an educator might see in the classroom.
